Hood installation will be easier on drywall and the tile labor and materials should be less since the area will be slightly less.

Mark the position on the backsplash where the bracket will be installed.

Our tile guy asked us to make a plywood piece the exact size and shape of the hood.
Place pieces of masking tape over the areas where the holes will be drilled.
The order would be to install the hood first.
Range hoods are a necessity in any kitchen.
Depending on the location of your range you will need to decide if it is easier to vent through an outside wall versus up.
Mark the exact spot with a pencil.
You should put the tiles on first so you don t have to try and cut the tiles around the mounted fan.
The trickiest part of installing a range hood is determining how to run the ventilation ducts.
Screw a temporary wall cleat in the range opening even with the countertop to support the tile.
In the kitchen of the kuppersmith project house a glass tile backsplash was applied to the wall behind the stove.
Cover the countertops with kraft paper to protect them from the abrasive mortar.
The tile you choose and the dimensions of your backsplash area will dictate your layout.

This way the tile will butt up nicely and you will have the width defined so you can confirm if you want the entire wall tiled or just to the sides of the hood.
That way the microwave will sit flat against the wall tile.

If backsplash needs to tuck up under the range hood might be able to do that if a spacer is left in place when it is installed if the backsplash is a panel product with no joint behind the hood otherwise should be done before the hood install like if tile and needs to cover the wall up behind the hood.
The hood would be mounted to the plywood and the tile would go up to it.
I am thinking i should install the range hood first and then the backsplash.
While the backsplash and hood have a contemporary style they blend in great with this historic home.
A properly installed range hood will vent hot air and cooking odors outside as well as help keep kitchen surfaces free of grease.
I m not sure why this is better than just tiling the wall and putting the hood over the top of it.
